Hot fresh vegetarian food. Whole beans and Spanish rice are vegan. My husband (the meat eater) said these were some of the best enchiladas he’d ever eaten. I’m trying to talk them into carrying a good veggie burger as well. across the street from the Harvey House museum. Need to amend this, the calabacitas I had last time were NOT vegan. Was pretty sick for the rest of the day. Apparently, it depends on who’s cooking.
We had a wonderful experience tonight. We are in New Mexico for the Balloon Fiesta and we had ate at Pete's Cafe 3 years prior during balloon Fiesta. Great meal, great service and wonderful server
This was a beautiful restaurant. Dining room has cool old country tables and chairs. The salsa tastes fresh and delicious. Chips were fresh. Green chile cheese nchilada dinner was so good. Sopapillas were fresh and good. Nothing bad about it 🤌 There is also an outdoor area to sit when the weather gets warmer.
Pete's Cafe is a fantastic spot for authentic New Mexican cuisine! We tried two of their special dinner items: the Pete’s Shrimp Taco Plate (Menu #2) and the Chicken Flauta Plate (Menu #7). Both were excellent choices. The Shrimp Taco Plate featured two soft flour tortillas stuffed with perfectly grilled shrimp, garnished with fresh toppings, and served with a creamy chipotle sauce that added just the right amount of kick. It came with rice, and the warm sopapillas were the perfect complement to the meal. The Chicken Flauta Plate offered three crispy, rolled chicken flautas paired with guacamole and sour cream. The flautas were golden and crunchy on the outside while being tender and flavorful on the inside. The rice on the side were seasoned perfectly, making this dish a standout. In addition to the amazing food, the service was quick and friendly, and the restaurant had a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. We highly recommend Pete's Cafe if you're looking for delicious New Mexican food in Belen! We came here to eat about a month or so ago, after having a bad experience at Fat Sats. Their food is definitely made with pride, friendly service, and a beautiful establishment. Absolutely added to our rotation. 😊
You want an authentic “New Mexico” experience, this is the place to go. We loved our time here enjoying the food, great service, and warm, delicious “sopapillas” at the end of our meal. 100% recommend!
I had the Relleno plate at server’s recommendation. It came out fast and was piping hot. The fry bread sopapillas were amazing. I could eat about 20. Really great meal! I recommend.
So although the food is good be aware they may use MSG. We always seem to get full so fast. It's not an issue for us but I know it is a concern for some. We usually have good service but they do have 1 waitress that we prefer not to deal with. We will even ask to sit in another area just to avoid her. It's hard to get cell service because the walls are Adobe but it just it just allows you to actually have conversations without distraction. Price is fair. It's our go to place for lunch after church.
I can tell why this has been a local favorite for years. The food and atmosphere are prime examples of real New Mexico cuisine and hospitality. It was our 1st visit but we were treated like family, my sister had a taco salad and I had the shrimp enchiladas. Definitely will return!
